North of Superior to Wawa

Sault Ste. Marie to Wawa

The Lake Superior Provincial Park hiking trails provide a great opportunity to see the southern edge of the boreal forest. While photographing I was told by a park employee that on one hiking trail, when the fall colours are at their best you can actually see where the Great Lakes St. Lawrence forest to the south with its domination of hardwood meets the softwoods of the boreal forest to the north. Black Spruce forests are a dominant species in the boreal forest. Most of the photographs where taken on the numerous hiking trails in the park.
